Update: Ignore this post and visit http://www.web.whatsapp.com and scan the QR code from your phone to use it on any desktops. WhatsApp is an instant messaging app for smart phone users that uses data-based services provided by your network operator. Thus sending messages using WhatsApp does not cost any network charges and instead only data costs get charged which are next to nothing. In simple words, WhatsApp uses the internet to enable communication between users as compared to a networked based SMS service.whatsapp-youwave

WhatsApp is the brainchild of two former Yahoo employees who founded WhatsApp Inc. in 2009. It was founded by Brian Acton and Jan Koum, who based their company in Mountain View, California. WhatsApp is currently so popular that it has about 700 million daily active users, compared to 830 million users that are active on Facebook. Sensing a possible threat from WhatsApp, which people started preferring more than Facebook, when it came to social network based communication, Facebook decided to acquire WhatsApp in the year 2014 for a fat whopping acquisition amount of $19 billion.

That is why we are here, to help you access and enjoy the super awesome app, ‘WhatsApp’, right on your personal computer. The following information contains a list of successive steps that will guide you towards successfully installing WhatsApp on your personal computer. This guide can be used to download and install WhatsApp for PC and will be compatible for Windows XP/Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 (32/64) operating systems.

Step by step guide to install WhatsApp on a PC

Step 1: Make sure that the video graphics driver of your computer has been upgraded to the latest version available on the net. This is because the Android emulator which is required to be installed is a graphics intensive app and may require latest functionalities from your PC. Additionally, your PC must have 2 GB of main memory.

Step 2: Make sure that your PC is connected to the internet.

Step 3: To begin installing WhatsApp on your PC, you will first be required to install ‘YouWave’ on your PC. Go to YouWave site and download and install it quickly on your PC. Currently this software is available for $19.99 only. However, you can use it for one month for completely free of cost. YouWave is essentially an Android Emulator. This software provides the platform to enable download and installation of android store based apps on your PC. Hence it is very essential for you to first download this software before attempting installation of WhatsApp.

Step 4: Once YouWave has been downloaded, you have to open the executable file and run the installation. To successfully complete the installation, you must follow the on-screen instructions which by themselves are pretty easy to follow.

Step 5: However, once the software installation is complete, the startup window – will ask you to either 1) continue with the trial version, 2) purchase activation key, or 3) Enter Activation key if you have already purchased the software. Choose the option which suits you best. You could either purchase the software and enter an activation key or you could choose to continue with the trial version of the software. If you do not wish to purchase the software in the future, then you can go for ‘Bluestacks’ which is another android emulator equally good as ‘YouWave’. Bluestacks is available for free.

Step 6: Once the above steps are complete, then launch the software’s browser window that will emulate the android User Interface (UI) on your PC. Using the YouWave interface, locate and launch the Google Play Store.

Step 7: Once inside the Google Play store go to the search box, which is indicated by a ‘lens’ icon and type, ‘WhatsApp.’ This search will then lead you to the WhatsApp installer window.

Step 8: Once the WhatsApp installer window is currently on the screen, click on the ‘install button’ which will start an automatic process that will install WhatsApp on your PC. However, make sure that you are ready with your Google ID credentials because the Play Store will ask you to login using those details before installation can begin.

Step 9: But before you start to finally start using the app, Whatsapp will ask you to enter your phone number and only then you will be able to login. Input your phone number to continue using WhatsApp. Once you are logged in, all your messages and contacts will get imported.

Step 10: After the installation is complete, start using the world’s favorite messenger and get connected to your friends.
