With PlayStation network outages during Christmas caused by hacker group Lizard Squad, Sony is offering gamers several offers and discounts from Thursday. Sony will offer discounts on games, themes and other content in the network.
A free trail of PlayStation Plus for five days will be offered and the discount codes will be offered during the month. This will be applicable to existing PlayStation Plus members and normal members who have faced outages on Dec. 25. The Plus premium service allows PSN users to access a range of titles, multiplayer and the ability to save online. The company added that more details will be revealed in January.
“Since access to PlayStation Network was impacted during holidays, we wanted to show our appreciation for your patience,” said Eric Lempel Sony Network Entertainment vice president in a blog post.
The 10 percent discount allows a one-time discount of total cart purchase and will be available for a limited time. Microsoft’s Xbox One also suffered outages and the Xbox Live services were restored by Dec. 27. PSN went live for PS4, PS Vita and PS 3 with limited services.
Sony suffered multiple outages in December after a Denial-of-service (DDoS) attack by the hacker group. The group claimed responsibility for the attack on Twitter. PS4 users also faced a technical glitch that made the network inaccessible. PSN has been facing several attacks since 2011 which caused the hacking and millions of accounts and was fixed after three weeks.
The “Thank You” gesture by Sony is likely to impress gamers who were not able to access the desired titles. The company announced that additional information will be posted on the blog regarding the extension of the PlayStation Plus membership. The extension will be applied automatically and the company will notify users who have the membership of trial expiring before the extension’s arrival.
