Twitter’s App Graph to track installed apps on phones for targeted ads and contents

Twitter now follows Facebook in tracking users’ activities on their devices. While Facebook tracks its users’ recent website visits for more accurate ad-targeting, Twitter will be tracking other apps installed on its users’ phones, and that too for better targeting contents as well as ads.twitter-redesign-mac-3.0-icon

Twitter calls it App Graph, and with this new data collection program, the microblogging service said that it will not collect any data within the applications.

In its official support website, Twitter announced:

To help build a more personal Twitter experience for you, we are collecting and occasionally updating the list of apps installed on your mobile device so we can deliver tailored content that you might be interested in.

Twitter will be collecting the data of installed applications to improve to suggest users to follow, adding related tweets, user accounts and other contents suit users’ interest and finally, to show more relevant promoted contents, that means more targeted ads on your timeline.

Once Twitter’s App Graph feature is activated, your application will send you a notification saying “to help tailor your experience, Twitter uses the apps on your device.” Until you receive this notification, Twitter’s App Graph feature is turned off and Twitter won’t be collecting any list of installed apps.

Twitter also mentioned a way to opt out of App Graph feature that could opt you out of the list of users whose installed applications being collected. Below are the guides to opt out of this feature on Android and iOs apps.
