A relatively new Chinese company launched its flagship Mi3 smartphone with a pocket-friendly price tag, a year ago. And a month later, Google released its LG-made Nexus 5 budget smartphone, globally. Despite having a less number of markets for its smartphone business, Xiaomi has attracted smartphone critics around the world and manage to sell millions of devices in no time.
Display and Processor:
Both Nexus 5 and Mi3 feature a 5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920×1080 with 445ppi and 440ppi respectively. Nexus display is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 while Xiaomi’s Mi3 comes with a scratch-resistant glass. The device is powered by a 2.26GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 2GB of RAM while Mi3 is powered by a 1.8GHz NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor with 2GB or RAM. The Xiaomi is likely to perform well during gaming with the 672 MHz NVIDIA ULP GeForce GPU when compared to Mi3’s Qualcomm Adreno 330.
Xiaomi Mi3 comes equipped with a 13Mp primary camera and a 2MP secondary camera along with dual-led flash. Nexus 5 comes with an 8MP primary camera and 1.21MP secondary camera and a single LED flash. Both the devices can shoot 1080p videos at 30 fps. Xiaomi Mi3 has.2 lesser apertures when compared to f/2.4 of Nexus 5.
Build and battery:
Both the devices feature a plastic build and Lithium-ion batteries with Xiaomi’s battery being non-removable. LG Nexus 5 has a 2,500 mAh battery while Mi3 has a 3,050 mAh capacity. Google Nexus 5 is available in Red, White and Black colors while Mi3 comes in a range of colors like White, Gray, Black, Gold, Pink, Blue, yellow and Green. LG Nexus 5 weighs 15 grams lesser than Mi3 that weighs 145 grams.
Software and Storage:
LG Nexus 5 operates on the latest Android Kitkat 4.4.2 OS while Mi3 runs on a customized MIUI based on Android Jellybean 4.3. Both the devices are offered in 16GB and 32GB models and storage is further expanded through a MicroSD card. Nexus 5 offers 4G support while the Mi3 offers only 3G support. Both the devices provide Bluetooth 4.0 support, Wifi and inbuilt sensors for A-GPS and GLONASS.
Google has always tried to keep a low price tag for its Nexus series of smartphones, and LG-made Google Nexus 5 smartphone sells at $349 (16GB variant) and $399 (32GB variant). Interestingly, Xiaomi Mi3 smartphone is being sold for around $250 in Asian countries, sell at $379 for 16GB variant in the US on through third-party online stores.
Xiaomi’s Mi3 and LG Nexus 5 are almost similar in specifications and features with slight differences. However, Nexus 5 has the advantage of receiving the latest Android update though Xiaomi Mi3 offers a better camera, MIUI and range of themes. Most importantly, Xiaomi Mi3’s cellular network option ends at WCDMA (3G), while Google Nexus 5 supports much faster internet speed. LG-made Nexus 5 smartphones are available all over the world (most of the countries), while Xiaomi Mi3 is available in and around Asian countries.
