Sony Xperia Z3 vs HTC One M8: Price and specs compared

Sony has released its flagship Xperia Z3 to beat the other smartphones in the high-end segment. Sony Xperia Z3 has secured a better place with its mind blowing specifications. At the same time, HTC One M8 is a good competitor for Sony Xperia Z3.htc-one-m8-vs-sony-xperia-z3

Let’s compare the price and specifications of Sony Xperia Z3 with HTC One M8:

Design and Build:

Sony Xperia Z3 comes with the classic style of Xperia series smartphones with mounted side buttons, square shape, rounded edges and so on. Sony continues the aluminium and glass combination design with new nylon corners makes the device to look shine and bright. The nylon corners would prevent the device from external shock, and prevent the device in the occasion of dropping the device. The device has rated as IP68 and it can be submerged in 1.5m of water for 30 minutes and comes with trendy colors.

While comparing to Xperia Z2, Z3 has 0.2 mm thickness bezels on the sides, this makes the device less wide than the previous model. The devices measure 146 x 78.6 x 7.3 mm and it is lighter than Xperia Z2, approximately Xperia Z3 weighs 11 grams less than Xperia Z2.

HTC One M8 comes with an awesome aluminium design and has a dimension of 146.4 x 70.6 x 9.4mm and weighs 160 GM and may give some problems to users with a small hand. Both the phones might easily fit into the pockets of the users, but HTC One M8 might feel a little lighter in the hands. The HTC One M8 looks similar to iPhone-like premium smartphones and in terms of look, it shows little bit sturdier. The device comes with three different colors namely Metal Grey, Arctic Silver and Amber Gold.


Sony Xperia Z3 powered by 5.2 inch screen with IPS LCD that supports a resolution of 1920 x 1080 resolution and it comes with Sony’s exclusive TRILIMINOS technology and LIVE Color LED technology for a brilliant display. Sony Claims that Sony Xperia Z3 is the brightest device, that they ever made. Sony introduced X-Reality image processing engine in its Sony Xperia Z3, that allows the device to provide more quality for viewing.

HTC One M8 comes with a 5-inch display, similar to Apple iPhone 6 Plus’ screen and resolution of 1920×1080. The pixel density of HTC One M8 is  a little higher than iPhone 6 Plus and it has a PPI of 441.

Processor, Graphics and Performance:

Sony Xperia Z3 comes with quad-core S801 processor and clocked at the speed of 2.5GHz, offer ultimate performance for the users. The pairing of 3GB RAM with S801 brings out more performance in Z3 than M8, HTC One M8 comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with a clock speed of 2.3 GHz. The 2GB of RAM present in M8 is lower while comparing to 3GB of RAM in Z3 and the performance level is quite lesser in M8. The benchmark result of Z3 is outstanding while comparing to M8; on GeekBench score, M8 got 2761 whereas Z3 got 2805.


Sony Xperia Z3 and HTC One M8 powered with the same 16 GB of internal storage, and in both the device, the memory can be extended with the 128GB MicroSD card.


The Xperia Z3 has 20.7 primary shooter with 2.2 MP front-facing secondary camera. HTC One M8 has a Dual 4MP (Ultrapixels) primary camera that shoot images with the resolution of 2688х1520 and the 5MP secondary camera. Sony has increased the ISO ranges of its flagship to reduce the noise in the device and has a wider lens in it.

However, HTC One M8 is capable of delivering colorful pictures in low-lighting with the help of its “Ultra-Pixel” shooter. Both the devices have a wide range of modes that offers a nice shooting experience to the users.


Sony Xperia Z3 starts from $749 SIM-free and comes in $299 over contract deals and you can grab HTC One M8 for $650 in Amazon (at the time of writing).


HTC One M8 comes with Li-ion battery with 2600mAH and runs up to 20 hours on 3G, whereas the Xperia Z3 comes with Li-ion battery with 16 hours of talk time on 3G.


The HTC One M8 is a little bit cheaper while comparing to the Sony Xperia Z3, and Z3 wins the competition with very marginal points on objective comparison, but HTC One M8 will be worthier for the price.
