The world’s highest valued company – Sources close to the company said Apple Inc. in final process of a deal with the Japan’s largest telecommunication carrier – NTT DoCoMo Inc. Do you know – in Japan, there are only 40% of phones are smartphones yet!
This deal doesn’t means that Apple will release it’s upcoming flagship iPhone for DoCoMo at the same time of the release, but the sources said, the company is to release the iPhones for DoCoMo consumers later in the year end with contracts similar to other tie-ups. New smartphone rumored as iPhone 5S will be unveiled on September 10th in an event at Cupertino headquarters, California.
SoftBank Corp & KDDI Corp – both are the next two largest mobile carriers in Japan has already in agreement with the company for iPhone sales and this new deal would give Apple more strength to gin back the market share which has been overtaken by Samsung after the release of Galaxy S3. Now, only China Mobile Ltd. is left as a major carrier of Asia, where Apple should jump to make a deal to further expand it’s wings.
According to the source, who said last month that Apple is planning to open a store in Japan’s capital city – Tokyo’s high end Omotesando shopping district in early March 2014, which will add company’s first store in the city since 2005.
Last month, DoCoMo’s Chief Financial Officer said in an interview – “The company is reducing the number of handset models under DoCoMo stores, which could be as 50% and shift to the promotions of Sony & Samsung handsets”. In August 2013, DoCoMo has been managed to add only 43,000 subscribers compared to 250,300 for SoftBank and 209,200 for KDDI. The deal with Apple will also help the company to gain back some more subscribers in early 2014.
