Facebook updates News Feed algorithm to show timely posts from friends

Facebook announced that it has changed the algorithm for News Feed and this lets the users to see posts from friends, depending upon current fashion. The News Feed will change according to the time as well as the trending of the post.facebook_trending_headline

The News Feed algorithm will change the posts in the timeline depends upon the trending topics. Suppose, if you and your friends were watching sports, then News Feed will change according to that particular trend.

In a blog post, Facebook Software Enginner Erich Owens and Engineering Manager David Vickrey has explained

We’ve heard feedback that there are some instances where a post from a friend or a Page you are connected to is only interesting at a specific moment, for example, when you are both watching the same sports game, or talking about the season premiere of a popular TV show. There are also times when a post that is a day or two old may not be relevant to you anymore. Our latest update to News Feed ranking looks at two new factors to determine if a story is more important in the moment than other types of updates.

Change in News Feed algorithm will allows the post that has more trending appears in the Timeline of the users. Testing of new algorithm has obtained more than 6% engagement between the users. This will increase the chance of being shown in the News Feed and it will not drop suddenly. Facebook is continually rolling out various algorithms for improving user’s engagement.
