So Apple Inc. scores the final goal and nullifies the $370 million loss that they were supposed to incur. According to the reports, The United States Court of Appeal for the Federal Court has reversed the decision made the jury on a patent related case back in the year 2012. The jury had decided that Apple Inc. is guilty of the infringement of the patent of VirnetX. The issue arose in the year 2010 with VirnetX claiming that Apple has used their patented Virtual Private Network Connectivity (VPN) for the FaceTime Video calling feature.
The jury had back then decided that Apple must pay approximately $370 as a compensation amount. Apple had appealed to the United States Court of Appeal for the Federal Court against the verdict. According to the reports, the United States Court of Appeal for the Federal Court thinks that some of the testimony put forward by VirnetX are not related to the original issue.
The Court also thinks that these testimonies are responsible to mislead the jury into drawing the conclusions. Interestingly, the United States Court of Appeal for the Federal Court has also made a straight remark on the decision of the jury stating it as ‘tainted’.
But this does not mean that the federal court has completely ruled in favor of Apple. Apple is still considered guilty of certain violations, according to the claims made by VirnetX. But since a majority of the accusations has been stated as false, there will be a major change in the compensation amount that Apple will have to pay.
The good news for Apple will be that the amount is expected to get reduced considerably. The further proceedings will initiate in some time to draw up the final conclusions.
