Toshiba unveiled a second-generation Chromebook and low-priced Windows 8.1 laptops at the IFA electronics event in Berlin today.
The new second-generation Chromebook features a 13.3-inch display with 16:0 aspect ratio, while the Chromebook 2 features come in two variants, one with 1366×768 HD display and the second one with 1920x1080p Full HD display. Similar to its predecessor, the Chromebook 2 has added a full-size keyboard, interchangeable colors, Skullcandy audio and a smaller chassis.
Weighing about 1.35kg, the new Chromebook is compact and thinner with 16GB of internal storage. Both the models are powered by an Intel Celeron processor with 2GB of RAM for the HD model and 4GB of RAM for the full HD model. Other features include an SD card slot, USB 2.0 port, USB 3.0, Bluetooth 4.0, HD webcam, dual microphones and HDMI output.
The HD model Chromebook is expected to be priced at £199 ($328) and the full HD model at £249 ($410) as Toshiba has not officially announced the pricing. The Chromebook 2 will be released in the UK, early 2015. The Windows 8.1 low-priced models were also unveiled for Windows users.
The Toshiba Satellite Radius 11 features a 11.6 inch display with 1366×768 resolution along with other features like Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, HDMI-out, microphone and HD webcam. The Satellite CL10-B come in Intel Celeron or Pentium variants with 500GB internal storage and 4GB of RAM. The CL10-B model has the small display size of the Radius and does not have a 360-degree display for shifting into various positions. The Satellite Radius 11 will be priced at £329 and the Satellite CL10-B is priced at £199.
