LG has launched its latest and most expensive Android Wear smartwatch, the LG G Watch R which carries a similar design to circular watches.
The G Watch R smartwatch features a 1.3-inch plastic OLED (P-OLED) display with 360 degree display and 360×360 pixel resolution. Currently available in Black color, smartwatch features a stainless steel frame with an interchangeable 22mm calf-skin leather strap. Similar to the earlier G Watch, the device is Android Wear based, powered by 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 512MB RAM. The smartwatch is connected to a smartphone using Bluetooth.
The smartwatch has an internal storage of 4GB similar to Samsung’s latest Gear SA smartwatch along with a 410 mAh battery. The device is water-resistant up to 30 meters and is IP67 certified. Fitness enthusiasts can take advantage of the range of LG health and fitness apps as the smartwatch tracks users heartbeats using photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor apart from other sensors like gyro, accelerometer, compass and barometer.
Though the South Korean company did not mention the pricing details during the launch, LG Germany has revealed the pricing and availability details. The G Watch R will be priced at EUR 299 ($395) which indicates that the smartwatch is aimed at the high-end consumers. The G Watch was priced at EUR 199 ($259).
The G Watch will be showcased in Berlin during the IFA electronics trade show next week and will be available in the fourth quarter. The smartwatch is set to face competition from Samsung’s Galaxy Gear S which was also launched on Thursday and is capable of functioning as a standalone device with 3G connectivity and voice calling.
