Foursquare recently released revamped version of the Foursquare in the split app model for iOS and Android and released its new ‘Check-in’ app Swarm for Windows Phone platform.
The new Swarm app was released for iOS and Android in May. Launched five years ago, Foursquare has been hugely popular with 50 million users who use them for ‘Checking-in’ and sharing between friends. The company has now decided to split the ‘Check-in’ feature to offer suggestions on places similar to Yelp while Foursquare will retain the recommendations feature.
“We are so excited to announce Swarm is now available for download on Windows phone. It’s the best way to keep up and meet up with your friends, so pin it to your start screen today,” reads a statement on Foursquare website.
The Windows version of Swarm app will carry a different design compared to Android and iOS. While the navigation bar is at the bottom for iOS, it is located at the top for Windows and Android. Swarm app includes features like neighborhood sharing that allows a user to let know what others are doing part from the other features like finding friends and Check-in.
Foursquare is set to release the revamped version of Foursquare for Windows phones by the end of the year and mentioned that the Swarm app is best used for inviting friends to visit a place instead of texting them. The company mentioned that the reason for the splitting of feature to a new app was based on the usage as users either used recommendations or check-ins.The 4MB Swarm app for Windows 8.1 can be downloaded from the Windows Store.
